Sorry guys! This post is yet again belated. But once again I couldn’t resist sharing.
So long-time readers may remember when I recapped my favorite photos of 2013. While my travels in 2014 were slightly less than 2013 (11 countries as opposed to 15) I still got around- after all, I circumnavigated the globe! So I thought these photos would be a nice skip down memory lane for all those who followed along.
A warmly colored residential canal. Venice, Italy.
Gondoliers navigating Venice’s labyrinth of canals. Venice, Italy.
A reflection of a Ferris Wheel on the pier at Brighton Beach. Brighton, England.
A young Garwhali girl in the Himalaya. Uttar Pradesh, India.
Looking out at the snow-tipped mountains. Uttar Pradesh, India.
The last day of our epic Himalayan hike. Uttar Pradesh, India.
The Taj Majal at sunrise. Agra, India.
Locals chowing down at a wet market. Bangkok, Thailand.
A fire-dancer on the beach. Koh Tao, Thailand.
One of Koh Tao’s stunning sunsets. Koh Tao, Thailand.
Muay thai fighters sparring. Koh Tao, Thailand.
A street scene in colonial Georgetown. Penang, Malaysia.
Verdant tea fields. Cameron Highlands, Malaysia.
A girl selling dumplings at a food market. Melaka, Malaysia.
A fisherman’s home. Halong Bay, Vietnam.
So let’s hear it! Which travel photo is your personal favorite?

Great pictures! I love the Brighton snap, I visit Brighton regularly but always come away with the same boring photos. I love how you’ve used such a different approach with yours :)
Jealous, I absolutely LOVED Brighton! In fact I would totally live there if I could just snag a U.K. visa :)
Fantastic photos, Ashley! I love the shot of Penang. Looks like a painting!
Thanks so much Laryssa! I absolutely loved Penang, I can’t wait to write about it!
Gorgeous photos!! It’s so hard to pick one – they are all great! I guess if I had to pick though, I would have to say one of the Venice ones. Suppose I’m a little biased because seeing those is making me excited for an upcoming trip there!
Ooh jealous! Enjoy your trip to Venice, it’s such a wonderful place :)
Uh-mazing. A++. Love the mountain shots!
Thanks so much Polly! I think I saw some of the most beautiful sites of my life on that hike :)
These are all so striking! The opening Venice shot is just gorgeous, and I love the hazy food market one, but I keep returning to the Brighton reflection. It has such a unique perspective!
Thanks Heather! Brighton was seriously such a charming little place :)
All these photos are gorgeous, Ashley, but I think, my personal favourites are the coloured residential canal in Venice, the young Garwhali girl in the Himalayas, the Taj Mahal at sunrise, the tea fields in the Cameron Highlands and of course, Halong Bay. Just been there for the second time and would love to return in a heartbeat.
The second time? That’s amazing. It was seriously such a great spot, I loved it!
Ashley, these are amazing! I love them all, but I’d totally frame that first shot from Venice and hang it in my living room — it’s perfect!
Thanks, Julika! I seriously loved the light and colors in Venice- so beautiful :)
Beautiful pictures Ashley. Love the first shot of Venice. The velvet texture of the water and pastel colors make this a very peaceful photograph :). Also love the perspective on the last shot of your Himalayan hike. Keep them coming!

Thanks so much! All of the shots bring back great memories- I’m a lucky girl :)
Have the same fire twirling koh tao photo on my cubicle at work- best memories of Thailand sandy toes, cold chang whilst sitting on pillows and beautiful sunsets
Wow that description completely brought me back to Koh Tao- I miss it so much sometimes!
All of these are absolutely exquisite! Do you edit your photos?
I do! I use Lightroom which I absolutely love- I bought it for $100 when it was on sale and it was worth every penny.
Love the fire dancer shot! Tons of great photos here though and thanks a lot – now I feel like I have many more locations to add to the bucket list haha.
Haha always glad to provide a little inspiration! :)
I love all your photos! Each one of them is so well framed! But yes, the kid sitting on the rock looks more special!
Thanks so much Renuka! That little girl was such a sweetie, I was glad to have a picture to remember her by :)
Beautiful images as always! My favourite must be the fisherman’s home! What a peaceful way of life!
I’m 99% sure that was a fisherman’s home but didn’t exactly go inside. Haha glad you liked the shot though, Halong Bay was absolutely beautiful :)
Amazing photographs Ashley! Gosh you’ve made so many incredible memories! What a year! While all the photos are amazing, the portrait of the Garwhali girl is so special. That’s my favourite! X Carly
Aw thanks Carly! Love your blog name, by the way :)
These photos are amazing! I love the Venice canal and the Himalayan hike. Plus the Koh Tao one as I’ve heard amazing things about the sunsets there and hope to visit one day. Keep up the great work! x
Thanks Rachael! Glad you enjoyed the photos and TOTALLY go to Koh Tao someday :)
Oh my gosh – these photos are absolutely stunning! You are one talented photographer! I think my favorite is the silhouette of you in front of the mountains – what an amazing and special photo. It’ll be so cool to look back on that thirty years from now and remember your journey!

That’s a good way to think of it- you forget so much so it’s always nice to have photos for sure :)
These photos are really amazing. So beautiful. I love the photos of the little girl as well as the fire dancer in Thailand. A good summary to get some travel inspiration for future travels!!
Glad to provide a bit of Monday travel inspiration for you Sabine :)
Beautiful! Love the photos of Asia. And they make me hungry! :-)
I miss Asian food SO much. I mean I can get it here but it’s not as good and costs wayyy more than a dollar, haha :)
I love the girl in the Himalayas! She is so gorgeous, what a smile. And such a beautiful and real place. Great picture! And all are beautiful!
She was a real cutie! Glad you enjoyed the photos, Lenae :)
All your photos look truely amazing but if I really had to pick I’d say that I loved the photo of the young Garwhali girl in the Himalayas, the lovely black and white romantic photos of Venice, and the picture of the locals having a meal, in Bangkok.
I’m truly impressed. Those are gorgeous stunning photos! My favorite is probably that one of the green camps in Malaysia, so amazing. I hope 2015 is full of joy and travel too! With love,

Thanks, Vera! Admittedly I was a bit bored in the Cameron Highlands but it sure was gorgeous :)
Such striking photos and I especially love the diverse subjects! If I had to choose, my top three are the black and white Venice photo, you looking out at the mountains, and the tea fields. I am an uber tea aficionada and would love to visit a working tea plantation one day. Bien hecho!
I’ve been to all of these places over the past couple of years! So nice to see your beautiful photos and have a little trip down memory lane :)
Hi Ashley,
My name is Melanie and I’m a high school student who’s been following your blog for about a year now. I love traveling and learning languages, and your blog has only added ideas to my bucket list, along with cool photography inspiration. It actually inspired me to apply to spend next year abroad in Germany, so thank you very very much for the great content and just for living your life on your own terms and doing what makes you happy, it’s a relief to know that it’s totally possible. Thanks a bunch!
Hi Melanie, thank you so much for this sweet comment, it means a ton that you’re been inspired enough to move abroad! Good luck to you, have an amazing time and drink lots of beer :)
These are great, Ashley – I’m especially impressed with the nighttime photos, I feel like I can never get good ones!
Thanks, Alana! For the fire-dancing one I rested my camera on a ledge and fiddled with the timer. Kind of a hassle but I was pleased with the result! :)
Wow – you are a genuinely great travel photographer. Love the shot of the little girl in the Himalayas!
Thanks so much Emily! I love your blog name by the way :)
Wonderful collection, it would be good to have all these books!
